Reflection 5

It is the middle of the semester and this is when we start seeing students disappear and classrooms get smaller. I do not understand why students cannot just finish the semester when they know that they are halfway done. One of the things that keeps me motivated to finish this semester is knowing that if I drop a class it could be like throwing away my parents money and I can’t do that to them. My parents would be mad and disappointed as well. Another reason that keeps me motivated is that I like the classes am taking. I like the professors, each one so different from the others, even though some students might not like a certain professor because of his or her character I still find it interesting to get to know each one of them. Even though I don’t like all the homework they gave us my last motivation would be, knowing that I would get bored at home doing nothing if I didn’t had school. I like to stay active and do different stuff, and try new things, not just stay at home and do nothing. Anyway, these are some of the things that keep me motivated here in school and help me focus in finishing this semester.  Oh and I like meeting new people too. :)

Reflection 4

Hey! You hahaha

Hey, it has been a long time since we talked, there so many things that have happened. For example, am attending college now, which I have to arrange myself new goals to accomplish.  There are different types of goals I have, from long-term to short-term ones, from personal ones to achievements for the future, but the one I am focusing the most on is the ones dealing with my education. Long-term goals are difficult to achieve because of the time it takes to accomplish them. My long-term goal is to get my AA degree in Fullerton College; this means that I have to sit myself serious of smaller goals that are going to help me get to my long-term goal. I word like to get my AA degree in the next 2 years if not 3 years the maximum. To minimize the years I need to get all the units and classes I need each semester. This starts with my mid-term goal, I have to make sure that I get all of the units I need per semester. To complete a goal I have to make such I get the classes I need. If I do not get the classes, I need each semester it adds another semester to schedule. The final thing I need to do to make sure I do not add semesters has to do with my short-term goals. This is passing all of my classes with a B or better. To pass all of my classes I would need to study long hours and pay attention to my instructors as much as possible. This would help me get to my mid-term, which is going to lead me to my long-term goal. Anyway, this is one of the things I am working on right know; hope to talk to you soon. :)

Reflection 3

Last week, my plans were to work on my blog, finish my English essay and clean my room. I started working on this during the weekend, when I have the most time, except that I only worked on two of them, which was my blog and essay. I started working on the blog early morning and cached up in the vocabulary section, as well as the second reflection post, but did not had time to get to the third reflection, which is this one. Instead, I worked on my essay because it is due on Tuesday March 1st. After that, I got tired of sitting and doing homework in the computer all day, so I watched TV for a while. This made me forget that this post was due Sunday at 6pm. Basically, this whole week has been about studying and going to school every day. My week does not change except the weekends, if I do last minute plans, it would be the only thing added to my calendar. I did some reading as well from both English class and Reading class. I use some strategies in my reading, like reading extra information about the book I am reading for English and scanning through the pages to see what the book is all about. As well as using flashcards to do notes in. This was all I had time to do this week. This means that next week I have to make time to clean my room and study for different classes. Next week it is going to be the same: going to school and coming home every day. I do not have anything plan because I usually plan everything at the last minute if I feel like doing something, but for the most part I do not have time for anything.

Reflection 2

A story that has impacted my life is the movie “Amish Grace”, which is based on a true story and it has made me understand why the Amish people are the way they are. This tragedy took place on October 2006, which later was turned in to a movie in 2010. This is about how a gunman killed five Amish children and injured five other. The media became rapidly interested in the story; they witness how the Amish community demonstrated their forgiveness and compassion to the shooter’s family. Before watching this movie, I could not understand why the Amish people dressed and lived differently from everyone else. I did not see the point of living such a simple life. Watching this movie made me understand why the Amish people are the way they are, and it is because they want to live a life without distractions from worshiping God. They believe that having technology and anything that could distract them from worshiping God is wrong. This made me see them in a different way and understand them better. In the movie, it showed how one of the moms of one of the girls that died had the hardest time forgiving the shooter’s wife, even though everyone around her would tell her that it was the right thing to do. She was told not to keep anger in her, that this would only hurt her more. The support that the Amish community gave the shooter’s wife was something we do not see often. They were there to help her get through her grief, and made her feel loved. This part helped me understand how forgiving people and showing friendship can lead to positive outcomes that would otherwise never be possible. Also if we carry negativity, it only makes everything worse. “Amish Grace” has taught that no matter how big or small our battles and struggles in life are, if we have a positive attitude we can find the hardest battles easier to handle.

Reflection 1

In my life backpack, I carry many things; I carry faith, family, friends, and people around me. My faith with God is very important to me because it helps me understand what is around me and how to approach it, which I am still learning every day.  Knowing that I could have that relationship with my God keeps me going in life and makes it easier to carry my backpack. As a daughter and a sister, I carry decisions made in the family whether they are good or difficult to carry, when the situation gets difficult, not only I carry my own things but I am also caring everyone else is as well. This makes my backpack even heavier to carry. The things I carry of my friends are things they tell me, for example if they are going through something difficult, I try to help them when I can, as well as when they are at their happiest moments I carry their joy with me. When I say people around me, I am talking about people I come across in day-to-day life. For example, if I am walking to school and I see a person that needs help and I cannot help them for whatever reason, I think of that person if they got the help they needed by someone else. I don’t just carry the heavy difficult stuff in my backpack; I also carry the joy and happiness that life brings to me as I walk with my backpack next to me.
